Note: This adventure comes from “ The Sinister Spire”, by Bruce R. Cordell and Ari Marmell, as published by Wizards of the Coast.

16 September 1111

After the initial expedition into the “Necromancer's Spike”, Yosi finds himself babysitting a drunk, agitated, and out-of-control Ketamine. The reasons for her behavior remain a mystery.1)

During her drunken misadventure, Ketamine spends an enormous amount of money on vials of acid (clearing out the contents of the bazaar) and hands them out to the rest of the party.

17 September 1111

Area S7) With a revitalized (and complete) group, the party storms into the shrine to Lolth and overwhelms the massive spider statue with acid and weapon attacks. In the end, the great golem explodes, having managed to exude only one of its deadly swarms.

Convinced that this room holds the key to further progress into the “spike”, the party spends over an hour searching and tearing apart the altar and a magical, ceremonial font. In the end, however, they convince themselves that this is a dead-end.

Area S10) Spiral Stairs

Searching elsewhere, though, someone2) discovers a secret door in the kitchen that leads to a small room with a wrought iron spiral staircase leading up.

Area S11) Foyer to Horror

Keyed to the idea of secret doors (and aware of their quality), the party spends more time searching for them. At the top of the spiral stairs, Heilli spots a secret door leading to a narrow hallway – which allows them to bypass a pair of dangerous pits filled with undead-infused body parts.

Area S14) Landing

On the other end of the bypassed room, the party discovers another wrought iron spiral staircase going up.

Area S15) Hall of Audience

Atop the second spiral stairway, the party enters a large presentation hall. Here they find a trio of “living spells” (who are destroyed) and a Shadow (who flees).

Nearby, they discover a third spiral stairway going up.

Area S18) Graveyard, Area S20) Overlook

While Ketamine enters a weird, indoor graveyard on one side, the rest of the party enters the overlook at the other end of a massive, “natural” cavern. Here, they find themselves in a prolonged fight with a quartet of dangerous undead, including a massive “Desiccator”, a Wraith, an “Entomber”, and some kind of Illithid.

In the course of the battle, Ash takes a near-fatal blow from the Desiccator, saved only by the timely administration of magical healing from his sister, Allie. Meanwhile, on the other end of the cavern, Ketamine finds her life force partially drained by the Wraith. In the end, though, the party is victorious.

Area S19) Mausoleum

Despite their weakened condition, the party gambles and enters the one remaining room on this level. In it, they find two sarcophagi – one containing the perfectly preserved body of a female drow (covered with a magical shroud), and the other empty.

They take the shroud and the jewelry from the dead drow and make their way out, so they can rest another day before tackling the rest of the “spike”.
