The Pain & Scale

This is a small psionics shop off the beaten path at the end of a short alley in the Atana district of the city of Southbay in Southern Rota. There is no outside sign advertising its existence, just a plain, wooden door marked with a wispy decorative symbol that most people believe to be mere artwork. Those in the know, however, understand it to be a rune in an unknown language.

The shop relies exclusively on word-of-mouth to gain new clients. The proprietor, a mysterious man who goes by the name “Wong”,1) demands that new customers be “pledged” by an existing customer. Once they are accepted, they are sworn to secrecy about the shop's existence. Despite this code, the shop is well-known among the local criminal elements who keep their distance – presumably because of some kind of an “understanding” between them and Wong.

Inside, the stuffy and overly warm shop is decorated with numerous components taken from what Wong describes as dragons2) – including one unbelievably large scale that hangs on the inside, above the main entrance. This scale, along with the fact that Wong's specialty is psionic tattoos led to the shop's name – a name which Wong himself never uses.

The shop's dim illumination combined with Wong's preference to remain hidden under a dark cloak means that many of his clients have never had a good look at him. He claims this is for his own privacy, leading many to speculate that outside of his shop, he is a prominent member of the Southbay elite.

1)
most assume this is a pseudonym, but Wong never gives a straight answer when asked.
2)
While many of these items appear to be taken from mundane reptiles, most clients allow Wong this exaggeration as it sometimes leads to stories of adventure that the reclusive man is normally loathe to mention.
