Norwood, King Of Lendore

Overview

Norwood lived for five years as a slave to a dryad. When he was released, he found his home and job gone. He joined forces with Karelia to find the Eye of Odin. In the process, he found Kelva and now rules Lendore island with it.

History

Norwood was a Captain of the Spindrift kingdom's ranger patrols in the year 1090. Though his soldiers were primarily Rangers, he himself is a Cavalier. His jurisdiction was the rural areas surrounding the city of Restenford, though his patrols rarely brought him into that city. In the summer of 1090, he was met a Dryad, was unwittingly charmed, and taken into her tree. She finally grew tired of him four years later and set him free in mid-March 1094.

He returned to the city unaware of his dormancy, and found that a political shift had taken place that left a baron in charge who was not sympathetic to his plight. He found that his king and his baron were dead, his kingdom changed, and few of his friends in a position to do anything about it. He returned to the dryad to seek revenge, only to be denied that by the timely intervention of the druid/fighter Karelia.

Norwood stayed with Karelia for only one day. He travelled to the strife- torn main continent to find a cause to champion, but found the rulers unwilling to take action. Disillusioned, he travelled to the archmage Elsa to ask her advice. Once there, in May of 1094, he met Karelia again and found that she was on a quest to seek the magical crystal of Vakdra in the underdark. As a favor to Elsa and to help his sagging spirits, he went with Karelia to the drow homeland.

After a week and a half in the caves, they finally found their goal: the underground city of the Deep Gnomes: Glimmerland. From there, they learned that the magical gem was taken by the drow. They proceeded to retrieve the gem, only to find that the gnomes only wanted the drow dealt with and that they did not, in fact, have the gem. The gnome queen, though, did tell them of the real gem. It had been inadvertently split in two three hundred years ago and one half was taken by a renegade deep gnome through a portal. The other half was in Glimmerland and the queen gave it to Karelia as a gesture of thanks and apology.

Norwood and Karelia travelled to this portal and found that it was only active on the day of the new moon. They went through it and found themselves on the world of Greyhawk. The half of the gem they possessed led them to the other half and they found that the renegade gnome was alive and well (and not aged three hundred years at all). After defeating him, they pieced the two together and experienced the resurgence of the great sword Kelva, so long lost to humanity. It was buried here and became unearthed when the gem was restored because the gem's power is to amplify and enhance magic. The sword immediately leapt to Norwood's hand, and he knew that his was a quest of great importance. The two headed immediately for the portal to return home.

Once home, they found that Greyhawk is cursed with a strange time anomaly, experiencing only one day for every cycle of the new moon on Karelia and Norwood's world. Though they were gone only a few months, they returned to the nearly-devastated world of 1104: ten years after they left! Once again, Norwood was separated from his original world by time and was forced to start anew. This time, though, he had a purpose and he teamed with Sorgul, Sly, Ozzie, Cale, Strachan, Tarialaî, and Wacarnelian to help defeat the Dark Mage once and for all.

After the epic battle that took place on January 8, 1105, Norwood returned to Lendore and, by divine right, declared himself ruler until a suitable king could be found. By May of that year, though, he was forced to relinquish control over the rebellious islands Midore and Aldore to avoid a bloody conflict. In September of that year, the peoples of Lendore cheered Norwood as he accepted the crown of Lendore Island.

Now, only eight months into his kingship, trouble has reared its ugly head once again and he must take sword in hand to fight for the life of not only his kingdom, but also that of the rest of the world as well.
