Resh

Common Knowledge

Before the wars, Resh was a highly isolated kingdom ruled by a theocracy that worshipped the Babylonian gods. They considered outsiders to be dangerous and eschewed contact as much as possible. Combined with the marshlands west of Backbone, this kept the nation relatively safe.

When Backbone fell to the Orc armies in 1098, hundreds of thousands of people were displaced. While most took ships to The King's Island and beyond, many could not afford this travel and so fled to Resh on foot. A combination of the great marshland (where Lizardfolk live) and Resh's isolationism whittled those refugees down to a bare minimum. But even that small number was enough to nudge the nation to adopt a more friendly attitude toward outsiders.

Then, in 1104, a mysterious hero arrived who defeated a group of evil cultists who were intent on summoning the Godslayer to appear in the flesh. This evil group had operated in secret without the citizens of Resh even being aware of their presence.

While the hero died in the fight, he disrupted the cult enough that the Resh populace was able to stamp them out for good. A statue was erected in honor of this mysterious hero. And since his name was unknown, they simply named him “Fighter”.

After the chaos of the cult, it was revealed that the ruling theocracy had lost its powers. They were replaced by a warlord named Helmer – who eventually installed a new form of government and helped open the society to the outside world.

Expert Knowledge

The theocracy lost its powers because the Godslayer killed the entire Babylonian pantheon.

Hidden Knowledge

The hero who saved the city was a little-known adventurer named Neville who was granted the ability to travel through time by Parádoxa, the Lord of Time. His exploits resulted in a significant alteration of the time stream – saving the nation not only from the cultists but also from total destruction.
