As a result of "The Blindness" event, the wizard Ealar Godland from the city of Nargundush discovered that the volcanic glass, Obsidian, can be used to focus and enhance magic. However, he also appeared to have gone insane from this event as he later killed himself. (Though some assert that he did so in order to travel to Godsland and meet The King in Yellow.

The utility of obsidian remained a secret for several years until it was revealed during The Nargundush Campaign.
