While the party considers their options and debates whether to explore the Caves of Chaos, they are summoned to meet the Castellan. Once at the Fortress, they meet Winvarle, the Castellan, his Dwarf Scribe, Dwern, and his Elf Advisor, Elandra.

They explain that an evil cult lives in the Caves, but that the Keep is stretched too thin to explore it on their own. They are each given a Potion of Healing if they agree to explore the caves as best they can and report back what they learn. After agreeing to this, they leave a message to be delivered to Athina if they don't make it back.

Dravindi gives her plant cuttings to Cornflower for safekeeping.

At the caves, Amirah sneaks up to inspect the first cave entrance (D), where she recognizes Goblin voices within. She then inspects the entrances to caves A (Kobolds), G (Rotting smell), and E (hunks of dead animals).

After briefly thinking about meeting the Goblins in Cave D, they opt instead to go into Cave A. They meet a group of Kobolds who are trying to calm an agitated Copper Dragon Wyrmling. Since Dravindi has a book about dragons, they attempt to negotiate releasing it to them. The Kobolds agree if the party can kill the “many legs” elsewhere in the cave – which turns out to be a pair of Giant Centipedes. The group kills both easily – though Amirah is briefly poisoned.

The Kobolds also report on what they know about the other caves on the lowest level. Cave D is a group of Goblins. Cave E is an Ogre (who can be hired). And Cave G contains an Owlbear!

They take the Dragon's treasure horde (which also includes a Potion of Fire Breath), and head into the hills to return the dragon to its home. Dravindi tries carrying the Wrymling, but it wriggles free and opts to walk alongside the party.

For the rest of the day, they head into the hills to where the Kobolds claim they “found” the dragon egg. Once they get close, the Wyrmling flies off on its own. Satisfied that they completed this quest, the party starts to head back, but then meets Nertuyaa, an indigenous explorer. She is mostly curious about the dragon, and when the party explains what they have done, she wishes them well. Shortly after leaving, the group sees a large Copper Dragon fly up from the forest!

Back at the Keep, they sleep at Cornflower's hayloft.

They report to the Castellan, but decide not to tell him about the dragon.

Back at the Caves, the party opts to go up to the second level, where they inspect and enter Cave B. Inside, they fight a group of Steam Mephits and a pair of Kuo-Toa Marauders.
