==== The Dark Mage (aka "Nakam Alkat") ====

The ultimate bad guy.  Now very dead.

He was born in the first age, approximately four thousand years ago and has
resurfaced to cause the downfall of civilization at least three times.  Some
scholars suggest that he is a minion of the gods and is sent back to disrupt the
world when the mortals have gotten out of hand.  This theory, though, is not
widely accepted and doesn't seem to fit with the historical record well.  The
Mage's birth name was Nakam Alkat and his origins are mostly unknown. Legend has
it that he was the only mortal to touch the great [[heaven spire]] and live.
