==== Hookridge ====

The city of Hookridge was and still is the "second city" of [[Backbone]] and is 
located roughly 20 miles up the river from [[edric_city|The City of Edric]].
Its pre-war population was 11,000, but thanks to extensive refugee settlements
outside the walls, the current population is closer to 20,000.  It is the nearest
city to the main [[portals|portal]] for the region.

The city is ruled (some say harshly) by Clan [[Drayton]].  The head of the family, Thomasyn
Drayton serves as "Grand Duke" and, while he theoretically serves [[Rathwyn]], he has
been known to defy her "suggestions" on numerous occasions.  The city is divided in 
its support for the Draytons -- mostly along ethnic lines (with the Lowland refugees
usually against him).

During much of the resettlement period, Hookridge was home to the Rangers -- though now
that "civilization" is taking hold, their numbers have dwindled and their base of operations
has been moved to [[Marsvan]].
